Amazement

This is Still Life with Open Bible painted by Vincent van Gogh in April 1885.

This is Still Life with Open Bible painted by my 13 year old nephew in April of 2006.

I'm pretty impressed with his talent. No, I'm amazed by it. My 13 year old nephew, growing up in Podunk Texas, with almost ZERO exposure to culture, art or anything other than rodeo's and keggers has found an outlet for his creativity.

I can't wait to have him out to SF!

That is amazing. Notice the difference in light on each painting, although your nephew was copying the van Gogh it appears he captures the light (the bulb) he is using on his painting as van Gogh did (the candle) in his original.

Exceptional Person in a One-Horse Town. Why San Fran? Better yet, a good school of art & design, no matter its location. Or even better, a good liberal arts institution. He may have other untapped latent talents. Many gifted individuals have many talents, not a single gift. See: Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Switzer, Kel de Texas, etc.

That really is quite impressive. Your nephew is so talented :) I'm even a bit jealous. I wish I painted like that!
