Lets definie racism

Racism is putting on white sheets and dragging people through the middle of town.

Racism is a group of boys pulling up in a truck in front of the gay bar and shooting into the windows and then driving off yelling "Die Faggots"

Racism is denying you entry to a country club becuase the founders belive you killed Christ.

Racism is also giving you entry to same club becuase they need a token.

Racism is giving you a scholarship or job BECAUSE of the color of your skin and not your qualifications.

Don't fucking preach to me about racism. I grew up as a GAY Man in TEXAS with BLACK friends close enough to be my family. So if I want to tell it like it is when I see things for what they are, you can take your out of reailty uber-liberal mouth and just shut it.

When I first visted San Francisco, there was a protest out side of the most popular gay bar. The protesters were saying the gay bar owner was racisit and wouldn't allow blacks and asians into the bar. GAY MEN were protesting THE GAY BAR. This was the most ridiculous, out of touch thing I've ever seen. In fact, the owner was NOT racist, the bar does allow people of every race and color in there, and to work there. AND the owner did own another bar, which was the "black" gay bar and from what I hear if you were white and when in there you had better watch your back.

People get all rilled and worked up over nothing. You want to solve real racial problems and create equality? Stop bitching about a silly entry on my blog and start bitching about this Administration. Write everyone in the government about the disaster of Katrina, about how San Francisco isn't even close to being prepared for a disaster of that magnitude, and about how they are usuing immigration as this years hot button, just like they used gay marriage last time, to make people forget the real problems around them.

And, if your still going to be all huffy and put off over what I say. I have a real solution for you.

Simply stop reading my blog. It's called Free Speach motherfuckers. If you haven't noticied, it's the real thing the governments trying to shut down in this administration.

Points well made, except for the motherfuckering. Well, sure, it's your blog and you can say what you want. Maybe you don't want comments other than supportive ones. I don't know. But some of this stuff seemed mean. And I don't think racism isn't only the big things you point out. But that's just my opinion. Sorry I was huffy, if I came across that way, and for overreacting. Glad you're writing.

Kel,
I get your point. But, technically speaking, anti-gay sentiments and/or acts are not examples of racism or racialism. Such sentiments and/or acts are examples of prejudice and/or bigotry. Race, per se, has nothing to do with it.

Your comments concerning the homeless of San Fran, while maybe prejudicial, certainly were not racist. Unless, of course, all of the homeless population of San Fran are of another race than your own. And, I seriously that to be the case.

Unfortunately we have become a society of minorities and "victims". Victimology is big business.

The trivial use of the "race card" is not beneficial to anyone, especially the race in question, that has real ligitimate concerns and matters that need addressing. (Thanks, Incognito)

I'm offended by your use of capital letters to express outrage. We capital letters are peaceful and lead quiet, simple lives just like lower-case letters. Just because we make things look loud on a written page doesn't mean we are loud ourselves. That is so racist.

Racism:
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. • prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on such a belief : a program to combat racism.

THAT is the definition of racism. And likely patrons of a business protesting that business for discriminating against people because of their race is what I would call an effective protest.

Get your story right before you go blathering on about it. The Pendulum isn't for black people and "from what I hear if you were white and when in there you had better watch your back". It WAS a bar for black and white people who have mutual attraction/interest in one another. It's closed now.

Check your own prejudice (and for god's sake, check your own references!) before you climb up on that soap box.

Assumption is also a key element of racism. Check out my blog if you want to know more. I recently published a quick article on it and my experiences with it.

LOL, I think it's funny that very few people commenting have seen racism from both sides. Now, since you grew up in TX, I know you probably have heard of a little town in southeast TX called Vidor. That's where I grew up. I only came out right before I left, but I saw prejudice, bigotry, and witnessed one of my friends' father saying on 48 hours, "I don't think there's anything wrong with black folks, everyone ought to own at least three or four." She was ashamed to come to school for a week. The thing is, it's human nature to be prejudiced against things. Where it crosses the lines is when it prevents someone from living their life to the fullest. I completely agree that racism is a worthless part of any society, but it does exist, and we have to deal with it.

My GrandDaddy once said "I ain't racist. I hate everyone equal." God rest his soul.

And I hate to do it, but I have to call another spade. God of Biscuits, the Badlands protest was not successful at anything other than making people laugh and financially hurting people the protest was supposed to "help".

The picketing was done by mostly white folks. They were picketing an establishment that employs a decent number of black, latino and asian folks, thus depriving them of business and directly affecting their pocketbooks (though I never witnessed a drop-off in business). It's sad when the PC Police are so blinded by their bleeding hearts that they can't see the practical effects of their actions. Bless 'em.

For my two cents, racism is alive and well in this country hand and hand w/white privilege. And anyone who claims they aren't a racist is deluding themselves. Everyone is to a varying degree. It's how you act on that impulse that defines you as a person.

Not knowing enough of the whole Badlands caper, I'll keep my nose out of that one.

Racism and homophobia stem from the same problem...fear. Fear of the unknown or fear of anything different. Being dragged behind a truck till your head pops off because your black or being beaten and hung on a fence to die for being gay are BOTH atrocities. Neither should be tolerated.

But what do I know, I'm just a gay hick from East Texas who grew up in an all black neighborhood.
